According to the standard of Taiwan, Taitung City with its 111,000
population, is just a small town. But it also means that half of the
population of Taitung county live here. Not to mention it is the center
of life of Taitung County.
I have been to Taitung City for many times, but this time I found a B
& B on Fuchien St. It was near many famous restaurants and the
famous night market. The map of downtown appears quite large, but
actually the downtown is surprisingly small. I decided to walk around.
I found a bookstore about 300 meters away from the B & B. It was a
chain bookstore. And, not surprisingly, the first floor is full of
adornment and various kinds of office supplies and materials for writing
and painting. On the second and third floor, There were teaching
material, scientific instruments, toys, and other things for kids.
Where were the books?
I climbed up to the fourth floor got surprised. There were many
customers surfing for books. Although in others stores they had more
office supplies than books, there were many books on the shelves here.
Perhaps it is the largest bookstore in Taitung, I think. Customers here
were just as eager for knowledge as people in other cities.
Somehow I felt very happy.
